Projects and Musings from a Diamond District Dropout

Asscher Luxe

So excited to be posting this, now that its new owner is in joyful possession of it! This ring is a very classic halo setting around a striking 3.45ct Asscher cut diamond. I like an Asscher because of its visual impact. It is faceted like an octagonal version of an emerald cut stone with a lot of nice sharp angles. The reason ‘Asscher’ is capitalized is because it refers to one Joseph Asscher, who created this cut in 1902. It saw a lot of popularity in the art deco period, but has come back into favor more so in the last decade.

They are especially well-suited for halo settings, because the fine sparkly detail of the surrounding stones creates a great contrast with the clean lines of the Asscher. Because of this, the hardest part of this project was finding the right stone – you want a high clarity, typically VS2 or higher, and at least a Very Good cut grade to really make these puppies stand out. The exceptional specimen pictured here is a VVS1 with H color.

Added bonus to this particular project: I found THE GREATEST RING BOX EVER to present it! This baller box features a cherry-wood finish with a built-in LED light in the lid that illuminates the ring upon opening… I mean, come on. Why haven’t we been putting lights in all our boxes??

Loved the one yesterday by a random stranger…I was holding the door open for her…she said thank you and happy valentines day..took one step forward ..stopped in her tracks and walked back out saying and I quote…gurl..it’s cold outside but I had to walk back out to see that ring… And I will say it again…the box!! I mean come on…there’s a light in it. Looking forward to many more years of working with you. Nancy
