Moritz Glik is a Brazilian shoe designer. At least, he used to be. Finding himself captivated by the creations in the jewelry studio next door to his own, he decided to switch gears and give fine jewelry a shot. It was a good decision. Glik’s signature collections present the illusion of floating diamonds and gemstones – typically encased between white sapphires. His designs are equal parts architectural and delicate, and very kinetic.
Moritz Glik is neither the first or last to capitalize on the floating diamond trend, but I do think his designs are by far some of the most successful. He also utilizes the oxidized silver look to create dynamic contrast – another trend I am particularly fond of. His use of rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and colored stones on the interior of these spaces is also one element that sets his work decidedly apart.
Glik’s collection of jewelry does include several styles that feature single stones and his signature architectural design, but I believe the magic is really in these floating feats of superior craftsmanship. An extremely prolific designer, he has many beautiful pieces worth taking a look at on his website. Bravo, Moritz – I think the decision to put down the shoes and pick up the diamonds was a sound one.
