Projects and Musings from a Diamond District Dropout

About

I’ve been called a lot of things in my life. ‘Graduate Gemologist’ was one of the hardest to earn and the loveliest to hear. After a childhood spent collecting rocks and growing crystals, a high-school job working in a jewelry store, a bachelor’s degree in metalsmithing (and English!) and a brief but lovely stint traveling the world while working for a big art and design school in NYC, I decided to switch careers and headed to the Gemological Institute of America to earn my diploma and start my career in the diamond district.

Here’s the rub: the diamond district, and by some extension the whole industry, is totally absurd.

I spent a couple of years working for a large wholesale manufacturer of everything from cheap mass-market diamond jewelry to high-end very artistic boutique items. I learned A TON, and mostly the hard way. I have since left that job and that office but have held on to my contacts in the district. I now use these contacts to create beautiful custom-made jewelry for family, friends, and new clients regularly. This blog is a visual diary of my projects thus far. Hope you will enjoy this journey with me – and thanks for visiting!

Ah – one last thing. To protect my clients’ privacy I will not be posting any specific cost or pricing information on this blog. Should you see something that you are interested in, however, please feel free to contact me for additional info!
